@jo That’s a solid point, however, instead of the two steps adding a venue *and* checking in, I would just change the logic and make it so you are as likely to find items by adding venues/checking in as you are just checking in. win-win

Just to clarify why it’s good you have to check in to a Gowalla spot after creating it – because then you have a chance of getting an item drop.

With the previous app version it checked you in on creation, which meant that when you were the first Gowalla’r in a location, you had very little chance of item drops to found spots.

Now you could potentially do both.
